And then there’s the world you’re doing it all in.

Little to no paid leave. Unaffordable childcare. No village. Political instability. Attacks on reproductive rights. Economic uncertainty. Climate crisis.

It’s a lot… and it’s no wonder so many mothers feel anxious, overwhelmed, or untethered.

Unfortunately most mental health care still treats mothers like everyone else, ignoring the complex realities of matrescence, the invisible mental load, and the pressure of navigating motherhood in a society that offers little support, and often actively works against you.

At Matricentric Health & Well Care, we see maternal mental health differently. We know it matters in every stage of motherhood, not just in the early/first year postpartum. Our approach is rooted in matrescence science, trauma-informed care, and over a decade of experience walking alongside mothers through every season of life.

We don’t pathologize the understandable emotions that arise from mothering in a culture that isolates, undervalues, and overburdens you. Instead, we help you understand how systems, from patriarchy and capitalism to racism and lack of social infrastructure, shape your mental health, and how those pressures intersect with the hormonal, emotional, and identity shifts of motherhood.

Our work is about normalizing what’s normal, validating your lived experience, and giving you tools to navigate both your inner landscape and the external forces that impact it, so you can feel grounded, capable, and whole, not just “fine.”

Current Offerings: Coaching & Support

Right now, our mental health services are focused on coaching — a powerful option for mothers who want structured support, tools, and strategies without entering traditional therapy. Coaching can help you:

  • Navigate emotional shifts in postpartum, perimenopause, and motherhood

  • Build coping strategies for anxiety, overwhelm, rage, or intrusive thoughts

  • Untangle the mental load and rediscover space for yourself

  • Explore identity changes and reestablish boundaries

  • Improve communication and connection in relationships

  • Learn nervous system regulation and self-soothing techniques

Coaching is not therapy, it’s a different approach to support. While therapy often focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions, coaching focuses on understanding your lived experience, building practical tools, and navigating the realities of motherhood in real time. It’s especially valuable for those who have felt unseen, misunderstood, or pathologized in traditional care.

We’re expanding our care to include individual therapy, led by a licensed provider, to support those who need deeper clinical care for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, grief, or other mental health conditions.
